Obituary

Charles F. "Spud" Chandler, age 92, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. He was born on September 17, 1931 in Marshall County, Alabama to the late David E. Chandler and Vera Price. His family moved to Oak Ridge, and he attended ORHS and graduated. After high school he enlisted into the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge CV-33 from 1951-1954 during the Korean Conflict. After military service he returned to Oak Ridge and was employed at the Y-12 Plant. He worked for 40 years and retired in 1986 as maintenance supervisor. He was also a member of Edgemoor Baptist Church and loved serving the Lord through faith and projects. Spud's passion was his local Optimist Club of Claxton. He was a charter member from 1965-2023. He served in a multitude of roles in his local club, such as secretary/treasurer, V.P., and president for many terms. He also served on the state level as secretary/treasurer, and as governor of the Tennessee district. He was passionate about the Claxton community, and was a member of the Claxton Athletic Association and was dedicated to having youth sports in his community. As an Optimist member he was instrumental in acquiring the Claxton Community Center from TVA and helped complete several renovations over the years. He also orchestrated the construction of the Kid's Palace playground and the local baseball fields. He was married to his loving wife Dianne Chandler for 71 years.

He is survived by his son; Chuck (Rogena) Chandler, daughter; Kathy (Keith) Causseaux, grandsons; Josh and Colby Chandler, grandchild; Jourdan (Meredith) Causseaux, and great grandchildren; Pierce, Chelsa (Matt) Causseaux Skipper, twin great grandchildren Hendrie

and Brewer, grandson Brennan (Emily) Causseaux, and great grandkids, Remi, Graham, and Rory.

Family will be receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM at Edgemoor Baptist Church on Monday, December 4, 2023 with a funeral service to follow at 7 PM. Graveside service Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Woodhaven Memorial Cemetery at 11 AM, with Pastor Robbie Owens officiating. Woodhaven Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Charles F. "Spud" Chandler.
