Clay E. Tumlin, 59, of Fountain City, TN went to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 6.  He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cathy (Williams) Tumlin, daughter Candice (Tumlin) Madewell, son John Clayton Tumlin, six beloved grandchildren Noah James Madewell, Hannah Katherine Madewell, Daniel Patrick Madewell, Makaila Ina-Kay Madewell, Rebekah Brielle Madewell, and Emily Jane Tumlin.  Clay was preceded in death by his father Sidney Merrill Tumlin and mother Katherine (Nowland) Tumlin.

Clay was seen by those who did not know him as an intimidating man.  To those who knew him he was a loving and funny man with a huge heart.  To those of us who loved him he was a big teddy bear who reached his arms out wide to embrace, love, and protect us all.  If we needed help or a sympathetic ear, we knew who to call.  If we needed hugs he was more than eager to assist.  If we needed to cry he willingly gave his shoulder.  If we needed his support for our team…forget it!  Unless our team was Alabama's Crimson Tide.  So, one more time for Clay and for the win we say, "ROLL TIDE!"

Clay was a big supporter of our military and veterans. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans' Home at One Veterans Way, Knoxville TN 37931.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2019,  in the chapel of Woodhaven Funeral Home.  The funeral service will begin at 7:00 PM.  Graveside services will begin at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 9, 2019, in Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.
