Gillian "Jill" Louise Margaret Whitlam Reed, 81, born on May 19, 1940 from Claxton, TN passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022 in the presence of loved ones.
Visitation will be 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, followed by a funeral service starting at 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Woodhaven Funeral Home, 160 Edgemoor Road, Powell, TN 37849. Paul Trumpore ,Sr. City of Knoxville Fire Department "KFD" Chaplain will be officiating. Graveside services, conducted by Chaplain Trumpore, will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Rodney Morgan, Beau Barnett, Clayton Northern, Dustin Pendel, Trevor Dunlap, and Bob Key.
Jill was born in London, England to Mr. & Mrs. Alfred George Whitlam on May 19, 1940. She went to school at Clarkson where she was given numerous awards for swimming. She married USAF airman Joseph "Joe" E. Reed on October 7, 1961 in Melton Constable, England, in County Norfolk. She worked as an Operations Manager for Southeast Service for 10 years, where she was recognized multiple times for outstanding service. Jill was involved in many activities, coached basketball & softball, and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Jill is preceded in death by her parents, Mr & Mrs Alfred George Whitlam; sisters Shirley Workman and Judy Whitlam; infants Joseph James Reed (1961) and Joseph Reed (1966). She is survived by her husband, of 60 plus years, Captain Joseph E. Reed – retired KFD; two daughters, Linda Reed Allison and Judy (Rodney) Reed Morgan; her brother Rodney Whitlam, 5 grandchildren, Brittany (Beau) Morgan Barnett. Erica (Clayton) Morgan Northern, Holly (Dustin) Morgan Pendel, Trevor (Britni) Dunlap, and Lydia Dunlap; 9 great-grandchildren, Bristol, Briggs & Baylor Barnett, Grady Northern, Morgan Jo & Corbin Pendel, Ian, Adalyn, and Joseph Dunlap.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for a donation to be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, in Jill's name. www.stjude.org
Our family extends sincerest thanks to the 3 rd Floor staff at Arbor Terrace, Dr. Michael Flowers, and the 2 nd Floor staff, in the Dogwood Wing, at Parkwest Hospital.
