McClain, Harley W., age 81, of Powell, TN, passed away early Monday, January 28, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with lymphoma. He was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church in Powell, where he taught Sunday School classes for many years. Born in Karns, he served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his military service, he worked for Retail Credit Company, which later became Equifax, until his retirement in 1982. He was a skilled carpenter who loved woodworking and landscaping. He was also an avid sports fan, especially of the Vols and Lady Vols. He played softball for many years and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He often was an instructor for the hunter safety classes offered to young people through the TWRA. He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Andrew McClain; his mother, Maggie Campbell McClain; his brothers, G.Y. McClain, L.B. McClain, and John McClain; his sisters, Myrtle Miller and Frances McLean. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, June McClain; his daughters, Janice and husband John McLean of Sweetwater, TN, Marilyn J. McClain of Oak Ridge, TN; his brother, A.M. McClain; his sister, Helen M. Bailey, both of Powell, TN, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will mourn his passing but celebrate his life. The family will receive friends at Woodhaven Funeral Home in Claxton, on Tuesday, January 29, from 5 to 7 pm. Funeral services, officiated by Perry Austin and Russell Lyles, will follow at 7pm. Graveside services will be held at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, January 30, at 11am. Pallbearers will include Wayne Loveday, Bob John, Tracy Flatford, and nephews, Todd Price, Bob Jones, and Steve McClain. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to your favorite charity.
