James Lowell Langford, age 85 of Powell, TN stepped into the
presence of the Lord on August 30, 2023.
Known to most as Lowell, he was a kind and loving man who
always had a smile and never knew a stranger. Born and raised in
Sweetwater, TN, he was a resident of the Powell community for the
last 49 years.
He was a graduate of Sweetwater High School and Roane State
Community College, honorably discharged from the Army National
Guard, a Certified Records Manager (CRM), Fellow of ARMA
International (FAI) and the first recipient of the J. Lowell Langford
Award. He retired from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)
and the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI).
A faithful attendee of His People Church, he enjoyed listening to
music, gardening, bowling, jitterbugging, line dancing at the senior
center, dogs, walking, playing basketball and football, traveling, and
visiting our national parks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; John Jess and Mary Elsie
(Cassady) Langford, brothers; Clint and J.C. Langford, sisters; Fannie
Rae Langford, Vera Hutsell, and Alene Dake, and nephew; Gil Dake.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Joan (Giles) Langford, son;
David (Donna) Langford, grandson; T.J. Langford, niece; Debby
(Scott) Hannah, several great-nieces and nephews, and great-great
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private, with a celebration of life memorial
service to be held at His People Church at a later date.

The family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in
lieu of flowers.
