Ottinger, James Kyle "Little Buddy", age 102, of Powell, TN, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, June 19, 2016, while holding, the love of his life''s hand. He was an avid fisherman, expert gardener, and enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes. James could take anything apart and make it work properly. He worked on the Manhattan Project and was recognized as a Cold War Patriot. James was member of the Powell Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Shriner. He was a long standing member at First Baptist Church of Powell where he served his church faithfully in anyway he could. He lead many people to faith in Jesus. He never met a stranger, and was a friend to everyone. If it was a helping hand you needed he was the first to extend his ingenuity and know how. He was loved by all of his coworkers and was affectionately nick named "Little Buddy".
He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Mamie Ottinger; sisters Wanda Meyers and Ruth Studdard; son Gerald Ottinger and granddaughter Melanie Deering. James is survived by his loving wife, best friend, life partner and soul mate of 76 years, Helen Ottinger; daughter Julia Deering; grandchildren Daniel Deering, Janet (Herman) Staats, Dennis (C.J.) Ottinger; great grandchildren Nathan Ottinger, Allie Deering and Danielle Deering; special nieces and nephews that referred to him as "Uncle Bud" and "Uncle Kyle" and always knew they were loved by him; extended family Dianna Grotstuck and family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers and nurses from Professional Case Managers, and all the other nurses for their loving expert help. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 6:00pm with Funeral Service to follow at 7:00pm at Woodhaven Funeral Home, 160 Edgemoor Rd, Powell . Graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10:00am at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. Services will be officiated by Rev. Phil Jones.
