On July 5th, 2016, Joyce (Foust) Cox left behind her devoted husband, James Dale Cox, and loving circle of family and friends to begin her reward of Eternal Life in Heaven. Joyce and Dale have four children: J. Alan Cox (Tracy), Susan C. Artz (Ray), G. Brian Cox (Kym), and Rebecca C. Swavely (Brad). Joyce''s family was her greatest pride and a never-ending source of happiness to her, especially including grandchildren Jessica Cox, Victoria Cox, Mark Artz, Sara Artz, Amanda C. Myhree (Drew), Emily Cox (fianc Alex), Brian A. Cox, Ashley Swavely, Susan Swavely, and Alan Swavely, as well as her great-grandson, T. Avery Cox (mother: Angie). Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Grace Foust; her sister, Billie Sue Foust; and her grandson, J. Joshua Cox. She is further survived by her sister, Bobbie J. Webber (Jimmy); brother, Earl L. "Bud" Foust (Nola); and sister-in-law, Jo Ann C. Shultz (Randall), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and their respective children, to whom she was fondly known as "Grand Ma Joyce."
Now to be sorely missed, but never forgotten, her sweet smile and gentle eyes, her gracious hospitality, her loving spirit, and kindness toward all have left an abiding influence on her family and on her friends. Her death creates a void in the lives of all of those who knew her. A welcome to all and a table full of delicious Southern comfort food were two of her many endearing trademarks: no one arrived at her home as a stranger and no one left her hearth hungry! The world is blessed that she instilled and cultivated those traits in those who came within her tutelage. Many are far better for gifts of her experience and wisdom; for her recipes from the kitchen and for their path in life.
Classroom helper, home room mother, scout troop leader, PTA worker and officer, team mom, Sunday School teacher, nursery volunteer, tutor and source of homework assistance (long before Google!), mentor, confidant, advisor, gentle and forgiving disciplinarian, cheerleader, conscience, and shining example.... She wore all of those labels proudly and well, but to her, the greatest titles of all were to be called "Mother" and "Grand Ma".... and "Honey." For any who would pay heed to her guidelines and advice she offered the keys to success and happiness, not measured in the coin of the realm but in memories and treasures of the heart and in glorious relationships. For Dale, she leaves such memories of a relationship that began in 1952.
Joyce''s family takes their measure of solace from the otherwise overwhelming sense of pain and loss from her death by their knowledge of her abiding faith in Jesus Christ; the promise of eternal life and the forgiving nature of our loving Heavenly Father; and the tremendous outpouring of prayer, love, and support from her extended family and wonderful circle of friends. Born and raised in the Clinton, Tennessee area, she immediately fell in love with the climate and the people of South Florida when Dale and she relocated their family to Pompano Beach in 1971. A part of Joyce''s spirit always will dwell in the warm beach sands of Broward County.
Receiving of friends will be on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 1:30PM - 2:30PM with a service to follow, at Woodhaven Funeral Home, 160 Edgemoor Road, Powell, TN 37849.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial gifts be made to either of the following Clinton area churches: Second Baptist Church, Black Oak Baptist Church, or Deep Springs Baptist Church
