Obituary

Byrd, Lola Conaway, 86, of Claxton, made her new home in heaven, Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Born in Memphis, TN, June 26, 1926. She retired from 38 years of service at the former K-25 Plant in Oak Ridge. Mrs. Byrd had a heart for missions and was active for many years in WMU work in her church, association and state. She went on 15 mission trips, domestic and abroad. Lola loved the Lord, her family, cooking and the Atlanta Braves. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, B.J.Byrd; son, Bobby Rush; parents, French Conaway, Claudia Hale; sister, Judith Gorrell; brothers, Carl Conaway and Paul Conaway; sister-in-law, Gisela Conaway. She is survived by her daughters, Vivian Rush and Suzy Rush; grandchildren, Madison & Kailen Steele, Megan Davis & husband, Peter, Lauren Morris; great-grandchildren, Aiden & Beckett Davis, Ziggie Gomillion; aunt,Maudie Roberts, nieces & nephews, Sandor Pardi, Jolika Hartley, Tommy, Andy & Riley Conaway, Lucinda Craig; her four-legged constant companion, Blazer. Special friends, Matt & Gail Davis, Evelyn Green, Edna Wallace, Herschel Barrington. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Saturday, August 11, at Edgemoor Baptist Church in Claxton with a Celebration of Life Service following with Revs. Charles Fritts, Tom Byrge, and Rick Miller, officiating. Graveside service will be Sunday, August 12, at 2:00 pm at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. Family request donations to be made to the Kidney Foundation.
