LYNNUS C. GILL, 96, of Powell, TN, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Claiborne County Nursing Home in Tazewell, TN. Mr. Gill was born June 23, 1920. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Powell, TN. Mr. Gill was well known around Powell as the unofficial historian of Powell Station. At the age of 90 he started building a small airplane in his garage; something he never got to fly. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving in the European Theater during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Gill; his parents Norman & Foye Gill; brother Howard Gill; and sister & brother-in-law Prentys & Thelma Gill Word.
Survivors include sons, Jerry Gill and wife Martha of Sudlersville, MD, and John Gill and wife Glenda of Tazewell, TN; his daughter Nancy Breazeale of Seiverville, TN; 3 Grandchildren, Josh Gill of Sudlerville, MD, Melissa Gill Cooley and husband Kevin of Yorktown, VA, and Jonathan Gill and wife Kim of Tazewell, TN; a couple great-grandchildren, Bayley Gill of Richlands, VA and Lydia Cooley of Yorktown, VA; and a host of friends including special neighbors Jesse & Nancy James and Don & Linda Surber.
Visitation will be Monday, June 5, 2017 at 12-2 pm at Woodhaven Funeral Home, 160 Edgemoor Road, Powell, TN 37849. A Full Military Service with be Graveside at 2 pm on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. Woodhaven Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens are honored to serve the Gill family.
