IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela Jan
Kite
February 23, 1955 – July 1, 2025
Pamela Jan Baird Kite (Pam) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on
July 1, 2025 at 70 years old. Pam was born February 23, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Garrett
and Pauline Baird, Jr. She moved to Solway, Tennessee, as a child. An adventurous child,
Pam liked reading, climbing trees, and playing basketball. She graduated from Karns High
School in Karns, Tennessee in 1972.
Pam married H. Terrence Kite (Terry) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on February 13, 1983.
They met in 1982 at the Oak Ridge Playhouse when they were both involved in a production
of Arsenic and Old Lace: Pam as the stage manager and Terry as the props manager. Sparks
flew.
Pam had an eclectic career. She worked as a telephone operator, photographer,
executive assistant, and many other things. Her favorite job was with ORNL as a technician.
She enjoyed the challenge of technical writing and editing, and was cited in several
scientific publications.
Pam actively volunteered with many organizations, including Girl Scouts, where she
led a troop for more than ten years. A craft virtuoso, Pam was proficient in ceramics,
painting, photography, millinery, beadwork, lacemaking, and all types of fiber arts. She was
a member of Foothills Craft Guild and participated in teaching, demonstrations, shows,
and other guild functions. She loved learning about historical fiber arts processes and
techniques, including lacemaking, spinning, weaving, and knitting. She published multiple
articles and patterns in books and magazines and taught local fiber arts classes.
Pam is survived by Terry Kite, her husband of 42 years, her three children, Christa
(Sean) Kavanagh, Gareth (Aliana) Kite, and Cameron (Rebecca) Kite. She is also survived by
her twelve beloved grandchildren: Michael, Rachel, John Harvey, Ellie, Mariah, Bethany,
Mackenzie, Rosaya, Alec, Aidan, Garrett, and Ethan, along with innumerable other friends
and loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Second
Presbyterian Church, 2829 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee, 37919.
