Portwood, Velora Frances, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2008, at Asbury Place, Kingsport-Baysmont Campus. She was born in Scott County, TN and spent most of her life in Clinton until moving to Kingsport 5 years ago. Frances worked for the Department of Energy, Oak Ridge, and retired after 28 years of service. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Wilda Wright, parents, Bratcher and Flotilla Adkins, and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her granddaughter, Natalie Wright, her former son-in-law Ken Wright and wife Connie, several cousins and many special friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November5, 2008, from 11:00 - 1:00 at Woodhaven Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service for Mrs. Portwood will follow at 1:00pm at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Charles Cook, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
