IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Joy
Stephens
March 21, 1933 – March 14, 2022
Virginia Joy Stephens was born on March 21, 1933 in Pharoah, Oklahoma. At age 7, her parents and other family members, migrated to Southern California is search of a better life. Following High School, she met Mr. Willie Stephens, known to all as Steve, fell in love and married February 25, 1951. Three years later she gave birth to their only child, Becky, on January 14, 1954. Virginia remained devoted to Steve all her life and never remarried.
Virginia spent her life devoted to the Lord and her church family. She had a great love for music and served her church for many years as Choir Director. As the years passed, health issues and failing sight prevented her from serving in that capacity and she was greatly disappointed that she could not do so.
Virginia loved to travel and spent many hours reminiscing about her various trips, including her favorites to Alaska, New Zealand, the Panama Canal, Hawaii, and particularly to Israel. She had planned one more trip in her mind and heart with her cousin, Gary, to the Mediterranean; but her failing health didn't allow it.
Virginia moved to Clinton, TN a year ago to live with her daughter and son-in-law, as she no longer could live alone. She sorely missed her beloved friends from her church. Recently, Virginia became ill and was hospitalized. The day following her hospitalization, her daughter unexpectedly passed away. Unable to bear returning to the Clinton home, with her daughter gone, she chose to live with her cousin and his wife in nearby Oak Ridge, TN. She grew comfortable and content there; but shingles and a broken shoulder, from a fall, dwindled her health. On March 14, 2022 Virginia passed to be with our Lord.
Virginia is survived by her cousin, Gary Davis and his wife Jana; son-in-law, Stacy Amos; and his two children, Jessica Amos Smith and Jeremy Amos.
Receiving of family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 17th beginning at 5:00 PM with a funeral service immediately following at 6:00 PM, at Woodhaven Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.
